Advance Telematics Unit/ Vehicle Tracking System/ V2X communication.

In the rapidly evolving automotive industry, the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) has emerged as a critical component that enables seamless communication and data exchange between vehicles and the outside world. The TCU is equipped with various wired interfaces such as the Controller Area Network (CAN), Ethernet, LIN, and Flexray as well as wireless interfaces like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a cellular modem. The ESD protection of these interfaces is crucial & must be considered thoughtfully.

Reverse Polarity Protection Audio Speaker PMIC Memory SIM Socket Sensors CAN Transceiver OBD II Connector Ethernet Switch UART CAN/LIN SPI/12C ECU GSM and GPS USB Port MCU Connector

Design Consideration:

  • As USB Type C connector incorporates different pins such as D+/D, Vbus, data lines RX and TX,CC & SBU, appropriate ESD protection devices should be designed in, keeping in mind the specifications for each of these lines.
  • Due to the small size of the USB connector, a key consideration in selecting ESD devices is minimizing package size.
  • For high-speed data lines (Tx, Rx) & D+/D-lines, bidirectionoal ESD devices with ultra small junction capacitance must be considered.
  • The Vbus line has more than 20V working voltage. Here an ESD device with fast response time & low clamping voltage would be a good fit.
  • As the CC and SBU lines are near the Vbus line, they could experience voltages up to 20V in short circuit condition. Therefore, ESD diodes with working voltages between 5V-24V must be considered here.
